Clear Vision, Confident Learning for Children Far From Home
Thursday, 15 May 2025

Laughter filled the school yard as children took turns trying on their new glasses. Some looked up at the trees in the distance, others smiled at finally seeing their friends’ faces clearly. For them, it was not just about a new pair of glasses. It was about seeing the world in a whole new way.
These students, originally from remote highland areas in Papua, now live and study at the Lentera Harapan Gunung Moria School in Tangerang. Far from their homes and families, they stay in dormitories in pursuit of better access to education.
On May 15, 2025, a vision screening and eyeglass distribution event was held at the school through a collaboration between MNC Peduli, the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation, and the Harapan Papua Education Foundation.
“When they tested my eyes, I realized my vision really was blurry. But with these glasses, everything is clear now. I feel more excited to learn,” said Anggina, one of the students.
Ellison, another student who received glasses, used to struggle to see the board from his seat. “I often had to walk to the front of the class just to read what the teacher wrote. Now I can sit where I am and still follow the lesson,” he said.
Kristina Rany Novita, a representative from the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation, said the initiative is part of a global mission to raise awareness about early vision care. “Good vision can be a turning point in a child’s education. That is why we are here, to help children see better and learn better,” she said.
Aileen Hambali, founder of the Harapan Papua Education Foundation, emphasized that the support goes beyond improving eyesight. “These glasses do not just help children see more clearly. They give them the confidence to engage in learning,” she said. “We want these children to grow into their full potential, live out their purpose, and become a blessing to others.”
Through this collaboration, the organizations hope to expand access to quality eye care for more children living in underserved areas. The goal is not only to help them see better, but also to open opportunities for a brighter future.
