MNC Peduli Backs Eco-Friendly Integrated Farming in Kebumen

KEBUMEN - In an effort to boost local livelihoods and safeguard the environment, MNC Peduli is lending its support to an innovative integrated farming program in Grenggeng Village, Kebumen, Central Java. The initiative transforms organic waste into both nutritious animal feed and high-quality organic fertilizer, a dual approach that promises to revitalize local agriculture while mitigating environmental hazards.
Local authorities in Grenggeng have adopted a system based on maggot bioconversion, a process that converts organic waste into feed for broiler chickens and catfish. The byproduct of this method, a potent organic fertilizer, is already showing promise in enhancing crop yields for area farmers.
“MNC Peduli is fully committed to promoting green economic initiatives that not only stimulate local economies but also contribute to a healthier environment,” said Tengku Havid, Head of CSR at MNC Peduli. “We hope that this program will create new job opportunities while bolstering the community’s overall well-being.”
The program’s environmental benefits are evident in its ability to reduce waste and eliminate the odors commonly associated with traditional livestock operations. Sarno, a local official, noted that the process serves a dual purpose: it supplies essential animal feed and produces fertilizer that supports sustainable agriculture.
“Maggot farming is a versatile solution. The feed generated is ideal for chickens, catfish, and even tilapia, while the residual material, when processed, becomes an organic fertilizer that enhances soil quality,” Sarno explained.
For local farmer Suparjo, the initiative is more than an environmental project, it is a critical source of economic stability. “This new method of raising broiler chickens is giving our community a chance to secure steady work and improve our day-to-day lives,” he said.
As the program continues to unfold, both local leaders and residents are optimistic that it will serve as a model for sustainable farming practices across the region, marrying economic growth with environmental stewardship.
