Bekasi – Waste management is still a major issue in Indonesia, especially plastic waste. According to data from the World Population Review (2022), Indonesia is in 5th place as the country that produces the most plastic waste in the world.

It cannot be denied that we often encounter the use of plastic bottles every day, including in the office environment. As a step to tackle plastic waste in the office environment, MNC Peduli invites MNC Group employees to collect plastic bottle cap waste.

"This is one small step we can take to protect the environment by reducing plastic waste in the MNC Group office building area. "We are trying to build employee awareness of plastic waste through this program," said Jessica Tanoesoedibjo as Chairwoman of MNC Peduli.

Jessica also emphasized that the "Valuable Waste" program has been implemented from January to December 2022.

The collection of bottle caps is recycled by the group of women heads of households (Pekka) into craft items of marketable value. The products produced include home displays, bags, needle holders and others.

Meanwhile, the owner of Akalabi Handmade, Euis Teti Rostia, said that the waste recycling movement started when plastic waste began to pile up in the family environment. According to him, the idea of recycling waste is also a sign of concern for the environment.

"Plastic waste is one type of waste that is often found in families, where do you want to go? "If you just throw it away, it will pile up, so we started managing it, starting from bottle caps," said Euis.

Euis explained that plastic waste which previously had minimal value would be immediately converted into goods of economic value. This trash can even be transformed into key chains, curtains, bags and clothes.

"From bottle caps which cost Rp. 4,000 per kg, if you make crafts you can get Rp. 5,000. Even if you make the bag it can cost IDR 120,000. "More than that, we really want to move in the field of empowerment," he said.

It is known that MNC Peduli is a forum for social activities from the MNC Group and all affiliated business units. In carrying out its vision and mission, #mnccare carries out social activities to help communities, especially the underprivileged and those affected by disasters.
