Semarang – It is estimated that every year around 8,000 out of 6 million babies are born with a cleft lip. Until now, the cause of cleft lip is not known for certain, but it is thought to be related to a combination of genetic factors, nutrition and the condition of the mother during pregnancy, as well as environmental factors.

To provide education regarding cleft conditions, SMC Telogorejo Hospital held a talk show "Prevention and Care After Cleft Surgery" at the Auditorium of SMC Telogorejo Hospital Semarang on Wednesday (15/3/2023).

SMC RS Telogorejo presented the Chairman of MNC Peduli, Syafril Nasution together with dr. Thomas Eduardus as a Plastic Surgeon Specialist at SMC Telogorejo Hospital and also the parent of a child with a cleft lip, Novita Sari.

This event was attended by participants from nursing students, parents of children with cleft conditions and the general public.

In this talk show, understanding the condition of clefts is thoroughly discussed, starting from prevention of clefts that can be anticipated by expectant mothers and pregnant women to education on post-operative care for cleft lips.

SMC RS Telogorejo Semarang also expressed its appreciation to MNC Peduli for its concern in cleft prevention in Semarang and its surroundings consistently since 2012.
